Nissan celebrates its rich sporting heritage at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with the official European launch of Nismo. Spearheading what will become a range of road cars developed and engineered with Nismo DNA is the Juke Nismo - a highly advanced yet accessible car that stays true to the Nissan's proud motorsport history.

Created with Nismo's maverick engineering philosophy at its heart, the famous Japanese marque's unique motorsport DNA adds an exciting new dimension to the pioneering compact crossover's list of attributes.

Design

As drivers would expect from a car bearing the Nismo badge, the Juke Nismo is distinguished by design features driven by function rather than fashion. Every new element has been introduced to enhance the car's aerodynamic performance, with even the smallest detail honed to make the car more efficient.

The sculpted bumpers and side skirts of the standard car have been reworked to enhance aerodynamic performance, while striking new 18-inch alloy wheels with a bold diamond cut design give drivers increased grip during cornering.

In true motorsport fashion, the Juke Nismo's interior is focused on the needs of the driver. The seats, instrumentation, steering wheel, gear knob, pedals and door trims have all been redesigned to boost driver enjoyment by creating a more performance-oriented environment.

The suede-trimmed front seats have been redesigned to offer additional lateral support, while the Alcantara and leather-trimmed steering wheel complete with red top-centre marking further reinforces the Nismo's motorsport heritage.

Powertrain and engineering: revised for improved dynamics

The Juke Nismo is powered by a reworked version of Nissan's advanced four-cylinder 1.6-litre Direct Injection Gasoline Turbocharged (DIG-T) petrol engine. Cementing the link to Nismo's track activity, the engine features the same technologies as the unit installed in the revolutionary and experimental DeltaWing race car.

In Juke Nismo guise, the engine's power and torque have both been increased in comparison to the standard DIG-T variant, but boosts in output don't come at the expense of emissions and efficiency. Power rises from 140kw (190PS) to 147kw (200PS), while torque is boosted from 240Nm to 250Nm, yet economy and emissions remain unchanged.

In common with standard versions of the Juke 4WD, the all-wheel-drive Nismo variant benefits from Nissan's innovative Torque Vectoring System (TVS). As well as splitting torque front to rear - up to a maximum of 50:50 - it can also be shifted from side-to-side across the rear axle.

Improved performance is only one element of Juke Nismo's dynamic appeal. The suspension settings have been completely revised, leading to greater traction and improved body response and roll control, while the car's steering has been reworked for sportier and more direct handling.

Innovative new technology

The Juke Nismo features an enhanced version of the Nissan Connect infotainment system. Benefitting from a larger 5.8-inch touch-screen display, the latest system includes a host of new features, including Google send-to-car technology.

The Juke Nismo offers further control through Nissan Dynamic Control System (NDCS). This advanced central command system allows the driver to alter the car's dynamic settings as well as make changes to everyday functions including climate control.

Nismo driving application - a vision of a connected Nismo future

Known by millions through the virtual world of driving simulation games, Nismo has a strong link with the digital world. To reinforce, this Nissan and Nismo engineers are working on taking the Juke's digital integration to the next level.

A new app, currently under development, could give Juke Nismo customers an innovative ‘connected' experience. It bridges the gap between the highly advanced race technology seen in the ultra-exclusive Nissan GT-R and the aspirations of affordable performance car owners.

Running the app, the driver's iPad will be linked to the car's on-board computer systems via Bluetooth. The driver can view multiple gauges showing engine temperatures, pressures, G-forces or lap times.

The concept also previews the vision of a connected online community of Nismo drivers. Once connected to the internet, customers would be able to upload their car's stats, sharing them on social media sites.
